Like the struggle to reach a magical oasis in a desert, Ben Marriott’s spinning cube was a journey worth the effort of making. I was in love with the whole effect and had to know how it was created. And now I know!
This is my version after following his tutorial. It’s glorious.
Wonderwalls
Wonderwalls – not a reference to the Oasis hit, Wonderwall, (which apparently means an imaginary friend who saves you from yourself) – but the planes of the cube with their dynamic effects and my ‘I wonder how he did that!”
My second one:
Looking forward to a scorchio weekend here!!
Oh wow, Elly that is magical! I adore the reflections. That must have taken some doing. Just fabulous. It’s quite hypnotic and seems to glow from within. My digital creations are much less ambitious – mostly creating svg files in Inkscape for cutting. I have done a bit with Procreate on the iPad, though, and this was my best and favourite one, called “Gold Fold”:
Here’s another virtual postal order from your favourite auntie lol! Thank you so much for another great comment, and I’m so glad you enjoyed my various Flickr bits and pieces. The beehive explosion box has always been one of my favourite projects ever. It was so much fun to do, especially thinking up all the ideas for the tags inside. I loved your “bee ‘n bee” comment lol! Brilliant. I had to look up Rosina Wachtmeister as I hadn’t come across her before, with her quirky cats. Do you know Laurel Burch? She’s one of my favourite cat artists – bursting with colour and general quirkiness! I am flattered that my latest efforts made you think of such an august artist as Gustav Klimt. (Have you see the film “Woman in Gold”? – based on a true story, featuring one of his gorgeous paintings.)
So glad you like my latest effort too, with the tyvek sunflower. That was really fun to make. I am on a real creative roll at the moment, when time and energy permit! I was hoping to get in the studio today but had cooking to do this a.m. and then my first annual mammogram this p.m. a year on from my breast cancer surgery – I simply can’t believe a whole year has passed since then! Then back in the kitchen again and what with the heat and everything, was far too tired to do anything after that and needed a rest! We are off to my sister’s tomorrow (a good 2 hours+ drive) and I’m taking some food with us plus my usual gift of a loaf from my bread maker! It’s on now, set on the timer so it will be ready by morning. It’s all go shez Shosh!
I am loving my new gel press and can’t wait to do more. So many techniques to explore and experiment with. Maybe I’ll get time on Friday…
Sending a smile from the heart backatya hun!

Hi Elly, I’ve been having awful problems trying to post a comment on your blog again – so trying again now! I also, very belatedly, tried to subscribe to your blog but WordPress’ subscription page said I had to enter a valid email address and wouldn’t ecognise mine as such. I think I’ve succeeded now, though – time will tell. All this is the reason for the delay in replying to your comment!
Thank you sooo much for another great comment! They always make me smile but this one made me laugh out loud! You have such a great turn of phrase and this always delights me. What you said about the Duracel Bunny was great – my hubby and I have a joke about it. When we moved here, the estate agent acting for the vendor got really fed up with her because she was messing us about and her solicitor was a complete waste of space and ours had to do half the work (which of course we had to pay for). The estate agent became our ally and it was as if she was acting for us and not the vendor (she was obviously very keen to complete the sale), and we really appreciated all her help. I called her the Duracel Bunny because she was tireless in her efforts on our behalf. When everything was completed, I made a special certificate for her – you can see it here:

I’ve never thought of myself as a Duracel Bunny! Before I got ME I was far too busy cleaning the house, attending meetings and evening classes, walking on the moors, going shopping, visiting friends etc. to do much art. Getting ill opened up that particular door for me! As Reverend Mother said in “The Sound of Music,” “When God closes a door, He is sure to open a window.”
I vaguely remember there being a treasure hunt for a golden hare but didn’t know the details. The story of Masquerade was fascinating to read and I love the illustrations – that book must have been fascinating. What an interesting story! I asked my hubby about it and he knew all about it and remembered it well. I feel sorry for the author/designer because the whole thing really ruined his life and drove him to become a recluse – a bit like poor old Sir Arthur Conan Doyle whose famous creation Sherlock Holmes grew out of all proportion and became a monster that took over his life – all he wanted was to be remembered for his “serious” writing and couldn’t even kill off his nemesis properly and had to bring him back to life by popular demand! Who nowadays ever reads anything else he wrote?
My fingers were fully recovered by the next day. I haven’t had a chance to test that sink mat yet – I’ve had a busy few days doing other things and all I’ve done in the studio is to prepare the remaining pages in the journal – tearing out pages to make room for the thickness of collaging, and sealing the surface of the paper with acrylic medium as it’s so porous. I’ve got some new paints coming in a day or two and the other order is now complete, so I can’t wait to get back to my gel press again!
You really made me laugh over the borborygmi – I’d never heard of the word before and it’s certainly one to reckon with – hard enough to pronounce! I absolutely love your nonsense rhyme – hilarious! I must commit it to memory and quote it at every opportunity. The nurses on the gut ward would love it, I am sure! They were always up for a good laugh about anything poo related – they were totally obsessed with it! Anyhing to do with poo seems to bring out one’s childhood hilarity over anything toilet-related. I called my stoma Kermit because in the early days he was quite noisy and made a lot of froggy noises. Nowadays he’s pretty quiet. I eat pulses all the time (we eat whole-food plant-based) and they never seem to affect me adversely – perhaps my system is now completely used to them.
I don’t go out much but one of the things I miss the most is the charity shop and junk shop trawls – always on the lookout for that unusual find that might come in useful! I am also always on the lookout for non-art related things that can be used for art, like the sink mats. I do make use of Ebay but it’s not the same as having a good physical rummage, is it.
Loved your sign-off, so I’ll send you a miaow ciao for now too! Lol! – and hope that this time my reply doesn’t fly off into the ether and disappear without trace.

Hello there Shosh! Well, I’ve officially honoured you with the title ODB – Order of Duracel Bunny. The certificate is super fun and loved it! Hope Lynn did too. Now print one out for yourself and frame it!
Glad I make you and hubs smile! Mr Bee is funny and we do laugh a lot together. Very laid back. His wise words are ‘Sh*t Happens, deal with it’. He doesn’t ruminate; not saying he’s an old goat! He just … deals with whatever!
Print the rhyme out for the nurses on the gut ward. Seems to me, people like you, who shine a ray of sunshine into what must be a difficult condition to accept and learn to live with, need the lift of super-charged levity. I just looked up levity on Google to make sure I had the right word and there was an example of usage:
“as an attempt to introduce a note of levity, the words were a disastrous flop” … I think change that to plop in the context above and you’ve got a giggle. š
Thank you for battling with WordPress and sending your comment! Brightens my day and is lovely to hear from you. I have no idea why WP is such a mare. I have enabled everything to make commenting simple… Pfffff!
Keep topping up the sunshine in a Shoshi and smile from the heart.
Ciao Miaow for now! š
